William Wyler's documentary "The Memphis Belle" is perhaps the most famous film to emerge from WWII. Wyler and Ed Steichen's "Thunderbolt!", a portrait of the P-47 and the men who flew it, is every bit as important. Filmed in color in 1944 and narrated by Hollywood favorite James Stewart, the movie shows "Operation Strangle", an effort to crush German supply lines during the Battle of Cassino in Italy.
Also included on this deluxe edition DVD are other rare films including "Fight For the Sky" narrated by then-actor Ronald Reagan. In that film you'll see P-47s, P-38 Lightnings, and P-51 Mustangs as they provide escort for the B-17s and Liberators of the 8th Air Force.
Also featured is "A Day With the A-36s" which features rare gun camera footage of the ground attack variant of the P-51 Mustang blowing bridges, strafing trains, and providing ground support.
Color + b&w films. Run time: 85 minutes.
