The U.S. Navy's campaign in the Pacific was fraught with moments of great triumph, and tragedy. In an improbable battle at Leyte Gulf in 1944, a group of American escort carriers and destroyers held off the main body of the Japanese fleet. Even when victory seemed secure, terrific sacrifices would be needed as Japan fought on, using Kamikaze suicide pilots to stave off their advancing foe.
Featured on this DVD are seven rare films produced by and for the U.S. Navy showing the campaign in 1944-45. They include a rare full color film "Saga of the USS Franklin", the carrier that, although hit by multiple Kamikazes, would not sink, and "Seapower in the Pacific" which recaps the Pacific campaign. Other films include "Carrier Operations 1944" which show flight deck operations, and the full color "Your Ship in Action".
Color + B&W films. Run time: 90 minutes.
