Founded in the early 1830's by Philadelphia jeweler Matthais Baldwin, the Baldwin Locomotive Works built an enormous number of steam locomotives before ceasing production in 1949. This catalog shows the company's full line of Mallet Articulated locomotives. Capable of developing twice as much tractive force as a conventional engine, and best suited for operation at moderate speeds, these locomotives were ideal for freight and mountain service.
