Originally released in 1945, "Appointment in Tokyo" is an epic film about the war in the Pacific. In a little over 50 minutes, it traces the path to Tokyo Bay through defeats such as Corregidor, and victories such as Coral Sea, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Especially notable is the film's attention to General MacArthur's campaigns, and much of the footage of the battle for the Philippines is unsurpassed.

Also included are three other films about the Pacific War. In "Bougainville", see the terrible battles that raged from 1943-45 on that rugged island. "Back Door to Japan" shows the activities of Merrill's Marauders, who fought against the Japanese in Burma-India.

The last film on the DVD, "Remember These Faces", is a rare full-COLOR film about the treatment of American wounded. It's a disturbing, yet ultimately touching film that underscores the sacrifices made to ensure victory.

Color + B&W. Run time: 91 minutes.
